ELEMENTARY TEACHER

Minimum Qualifications: K-6 Certification (including participation in a Teacher Education Program)

 

Looking for: committed, educator with experience in project based learning, multi-age grouping and gifted ed; enjoys working with all ability learners and has the skills to help students reach high academic standards; expertise and experience in individual and small group instruction within a classroom setting; has proven classroom management skills; experience with inquiry and project-based learning, authentic assessment and student directed learning; values collaboration with staff, families and the surrounding community; is flexible, creative, likes to have fun and loves children.
 
Education and experience required / desired: must have teaching credential and willingness to go through teacher licensing procedures for state of Hawaii and Highly Qualified requirements; teaching experience in alternative education setting such as developmental, multi-age thematic or project-based curriculum; experience or coursework in gifted education; standards-based instruction; with education/experience strengths in curriculum development, technology, math, and language arts; excellent communication skills and able to work well with parents and community members.
 
Attitude desired: Enthusiastic; motivated to work collaboratively with a team of teachers to plan integrative lessons; willingness to be part of a parent, teacher cooperative, open to new methods of educational instruction.
 
Duties and Responsibilities: responsible for planning, developing and implementing all core subjects (math, lang. arts, science, social studies) with multiage groups; supporting student learning throughout the day; attend trainings and staff development opportunities; sharing in the management of the school; attendance at board meetings, team meetings and school events or other functions that go beyond the classroom and regular teaching hours.
 
Salary Range: Department of Education (DOE) certificated employees will be placed on the salary range in accordance with Department regulations. Pay scale for teachers coming from out-of-state or non-DOE is determined by personnel department in Honolulu. Education credits and years of teaching experience determine placement on the pay scale.

 

                          AFTER SCHOOL Group Leader & Aide

 
After an exciting day at school, children of parents who work stay at school to participate in our After School Care Program. We offer a variety of activities that make their extended stay enjoyable. They have a snack, do their homework, participate in free play and organized play, and are involved in structured activities in music, art, drama, and P.E.
 
The Program services about 60 children in grades K-6 and is staffed with an Site Coordinator, Group Leader and Program aides.
 
PROGRAM GROUP LEADER JOB DESCRIPTION

Creates and implements daily after school activities with children in groups. Activities include involving children in art, music, drama and P.E. projects.
Position requires adult who

  • enjoys working with children
  • has high energy
  • is reliable and can be counted on to report to work daily
  • is self-motivated and enjoys implementing fun and interesting activities for children
  • is able to multi-task - i.e. lead children in activities, help parents sign out, keep an eye on safety of all, etc.

Expectations:

  • Assist in creating and implementing a creative, educational environment and opportunity for learning;
  • Work in a team approach with community, parents, educators, and learners;
  • Encourage creativity and experiential learning;
  • Supervise learners in a variety of activities and tasks.
  • Guide learners in daily activities and challenges;

Hours:

Mondays - Thursdays 2:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Fridays 12:30 - 5:30 p.m.

 

Pay:  approximately $20/hour
